YANQUL: The implementation rate of the new fish market in the Wilayat of Yanqul in the Al Dhahirah Governorate has exceeded 90 per cent. The project implementation is overseen by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources with the funding provided by the Petroleum Development Oman (PDO).

Ibrahim bin Mohammed al Alawi, supervisor of the fish market at the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, said that the project is hoped to be completed by the end of this year, stressing the importance of this market due to its vital location in the Wilayat of Yanqul and its potential to promote the fish marketing sector and generate ample jobs opportunities for the people of the Wilayat.

The new fish market has a total area of 1,366 square metres and contains 24 platforms for selling fish, 12 tables for cutting fish, a hall for wholesale sales and an ice-making unit with a production capacity of up to five tonnes, a cold storage, and a platform for the loading and unloading of fish. This is in addition to administrative offices for employees working in the market, a café, changing rooms as well as various facilities that meet the design of modern markets. Al Alawi added that the market has an area of 1,300 square metres earmarked for investment by local and international investors and entrepreneurs, the official said.

The new Yanqul fish market will be a destination for the villages of the Wilayat of Yanqul and neighbuoring wilayats due to its location on the main road leading to the Wilayat of Sohar in North Al Batinah Governorate and the Al Buraimi Governorate. — ONA
