Oman inflation rate rises by 0.2 per cent in March

MUSCAT: The inflation rate in the Sultanate of Oman rose by 0.2 per cent in March 2024 compared to the same month in 2023, according to data from the Consumer Price Index issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).


The data indicated an increase in prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages by 3.4 per cent, diverse personal goods and services by 2.9 per cent, culture and entertainment by 0.4 per cent, tobacco by 2.4 per cent, and clothing and footwear by 0.1 per cent.


On the other hand, prices decreased for transportation by 4.6 per cent, restaurants and hotels by 0.1 per cent, furniture, household equipment, and routine household maintenance by 0.3 per cent, communications by 0.3 per cent, and education by 0.4 per cent, while prices remained stable for other groups.


In the food and non-alcoholic beverages category, prices rose for fruits by 0.7 per cent, milk, cheese, and eggs by 3.9 per cent, sugar, jam, honey, and confectionery by 1.7 per cent, oils and fats by 2.0 per cent, bread and cereals by 1.2 per cent, food products by 3.6 per cent, vegetables by 16.2 per cent, meat by 2.3 per cent, and fish by 2.8 per cent.


North Al Sharqiyah Governorate recorded the highest inflation rate at the end of March 2024 compared to the same period in the previous year, where the index rose by 1.3 per cent. Additionally, it increased by 1.1 per cent in Al Wusta Governorate and 1.0 per cent in North Al Batinah Governorate . The rate increased by 0.8 per cent in South Al Sharqiyah Governorate , 0.6 per cent in both South Al Batinah and Musandam Governorates, and Al Dhahirah, and 0.4 per cent in both Al Buraimi and Dhofar governorates, while the rate decreased by 0.4 per cent in Muscat Governorate and 0.3 per cent in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate.
