Muscat: The Royal Oman Police (ROP) has announced updated regulations allowing vehicle window tinting of up to 50 per cent, as part of efforts to facilitate services for motorists while maintaining road safety standards.

Under the new regulations, vehicle owners are permitted to tint all windows except the front windshield, which must remain untinted. The maximum allowable tint for side and rear windows is 50 per cent.

The ROP also clarified that vehicles fitted with factory-installed coloured glass may be licensed, provided the glass allows at least 30 per cent visible light transmission.

In addition, the regulations permit the use of matte paint protection films or wraps, provided they retain a glossy finish and comply with the prescribed standards.

The move comes as part of the ROP’s efforts to simplify procedures for motorists while ensuring a balance between driver comfort, visibility and road safety, particularly in light of the Sultanate of Oman’s climatic conditions.
