Muscat:  His Majesty the Sultan and the President of the Lebanese Republic issued a joint statement directing preparations for the first session of the Omani-Lebanese Joint Committee.

According to the statement, the two sides affirmed the importance of working on concluding agreements and memoranda of understanding that would contribute to enhancing cooperation programmes and supporting bilateral exchange in economic, cultural and scientific fields.

The joint statement also expressed deep concern over the continued Israeli attacks on Palestinian territories and land violations, and what this represents as a dangerous escalation against the Palestinian people. Both sides stressed the need to end Israeli violations and called for full compliance with international legitimacy resolutions issued since 1701.

The Lebanese side reaffirmed its firm position on ending the Israeli occupation and establishing an independent Palestinian state along the borders of 4 June 1967 with East Jerusalem as its capital. It also emphasized the importance of enhancing Arab solidarity, safeguarding the sovereignty of nations, and upholding the principles of good neighbourliness and international law.
