Oman and Iraq issued a joint statement at the conclusion of the official visit of Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al Sudani to the Sultanate, affirming their commitment to advancing bilateral cooperation in various fields. The two sides underscored the importance of boosting investment and trade exchange, opening direct flights between Muscat and Baghdad, and enhancing cultural and tourism ties, while also reiterating their firm support for the Palestinian cause and regional stability.

Joint Statement

His Majesty the Sultan and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Iraq directed all relevant authorities to move forward in implementing joint initiatives and programs that would serve the interests of both countries and peoples. They stressed the importance of opening direct flights between Muscat and Baghdad, which would enhance cultural and tourism exchange.

Both sides emphasized the importance of the positive and effective role of the public and private sectors in both countries in promoting trade exchange. They expressed aspirations for ongoing activities and initiatives to contribute to increasing the volume and diversity of mutual investments.

The two leaders stressed the necessity of ending the Israeli occupation, establishing the independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, and its accession to full United Nations membership.

The sides also underlined the importance of cooperation and coordination between the two brotherly countries within regional and international organizations and forums. They affirmed that such cooperation would support their shared interests, contribute to strengthening joint Arab action, and consolidate the foundations of regional and international security and peace.
