BAHAL: Sant Mosque in the Wilayat of Bahla, Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, was inaugurated on Friday under the auspices of Dr Shaikh Kahlan bin Nabhan al Kharousi, Assistant Grand Mufti of the Sultanate of Oman.
Friday prayers were held at the mosque, where Dr Al Kharousi led the worshippers in prayer. In his sermon, he emphasised the importance of developing and maintaining mosques — both in physical form and spiritual substance — as well as their vital role in the community. He highlighted mosques as beacons for worship, learning, and fostering social values, unity, and cohesion among community members. He noted that the inauguration coincides with the anniversary of the Prophet's Birthday, evoking the biography of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and values of mercy, tolerance, brotherhood, and solidarity that reinforce the mosque's mission in human development and social service.
The construction of the mosque underscores the importance of caring for houses of worship as prominent landmarks representing Islamic values, providing an ideal environment for religious practices and strengthening community bonds.
Sant Mosque stands as a key religious and architectural addition to the village and surrounding areas. Built over a total plot area of approximately 5,490 square metres, the project features a total built-up area of around 2,350 square metres. The main prayer hall accommodates up to 3,000 worshippers, complemented by a dedicated women’s prayer hall with a capacity of nearly 200 worshippers.
Constructed at a total cost of approximately RO 1 million, the complex includes independent housing for the imam and various service facilities. Architecturally, the mosque draws inspiration from Islamic aesthetics and Omani cultural heritage, blending seamlessly with the local urban character to preserve Oman's architectural identity in religious facilities. The mosque is enclosed by a perimeter wall and offers ample parking space to facilitate visitor access for daily prayers, religious occasions, and social gatherings. — ONA
