

BIDIYAH: The Scientific Committee of the Nasa Space Apps Challenge 2025 Hackathon has announced the winning teams of this year’s competition, held in the Wilayat of Bidiyah, Al Sharqiyah North Governorate.
Organised under the slogan 'Learn, Launch and Lead', the two-day event saw the participation of 85 teams representing universities and innovation hubs from across Oman.
Dr Hafez bin Said al Rahbi, Assistant President of the University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS), Ibra, said the 48-hour event ran concurrently with hackathons in 180 cities worldwide, involving over 14 international space agencies. He added that the initiative aims to nurture creativity, enabling students, programmers and developers to tackle real-world scientific challenges set by Nasa, using open data and innovative software.
This year’s edition attracted 645 participants, who competed in 18 global challenges and one local challenge co-organised by Nasa, the Oman Astronomical Society, and Etlaq Company — making Al Sharqiyah North a growing hub for innovation and space science initiatives.
The winning teams included: Geobloom – Best Team, Data Usage Challenge, Leoverse – Best Team, Art and Technology Challenge, Griv – Best Team, Technology Usage Challenge, Galactiquest – Best Team, Mission Concepts Challenge, Terraguard – Best Team, Global Communication Challenge, Intelliwave – Best Team, Galactic Impact Challenge, Zenith – Best Team, Local Impact Challenge, Altakween Astrocreators – Best Team, Storytelling Challenge, Cosmic Crafters – Best Team, Science Usage Challenge and Shelly – Most Inspirational Team.
The hackathon also featured an international team from Zanzibar, marking a milestone in regional collaboration and cultural exchange in innovation and space exploration.
