Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has warned against using Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) in the Sultanate of Oman.

TRA said that VPNs are not safe, as they tend to track or share data, ask for permissions which they don't need, log into the client's activity, contain malware, and redirect the user to suspicious links or websites.

VPNs are commonly used in the Sultanate of Oman with or without subscriptions, especially for access to WhatsApp video calls, which are not possible otherwise in the Sultanate.

They are also used to access websites or apps that are not restricted in the Sultanate of Oman as per TRA regulations.
