MUSCAT: An ongoing training programme titled ‘Renewable, Sustainability, and Green Hydrogen,' is being organised by the SME Development Authority. The training designed for SMEs and startup companies aims to keep pace with the rapidly evolving industry.
The five-week programme concludes on July 24, 2024.
About 15 companies from the renewable energy and green hydrogen sectors are taking part. This initiative focuses on renewable energy sources and green hydrogen, emphasising business development to help participating entrepreneurs achieve commercial success.
Oman, recognised as one of the top countries for renewable resources due to its economic and political stability, presents an attractive destination for investors. The government's commitment to the renewable energy industry further enhances this appeal.
Australian Ambassador to Oman, Mark Lawrence Donovan, highlighted the programme as a valuable opportunity for Omani businesses to develop skills and gain valuable education in the sector. The programme is delivered by a highly regarded Australian education provider, in collaboration with leading companies, guest speakers, and technical experts.
Participants will undertake modules on renewable energy, sustainability, climate change, biomass, fossil fuels, solar, hydrogen, fuel cell electric vehicles, business development workshops, international business, and business matching exercises. These modules will be conducted by the Tamara team, TAFE NSW, various international guest speakers, and local workshops.
Tamara Overseas Company, in partnership with TAFE NSW, is responsible for delivering vocational training to an international standard in Oman. This initiative also aims to strengthen bilateral relations between Oman and Australia by promoting each country's strengths across various sectors.
Mubaraka, an adviser from Tamara Overseas Group, said, "This programme is the first of its kind in Oman. Delivering it with an Australian partner ensures high-quality education. The focus is on achieving commercial outcomes that will benefit the Omani economy, building a knowledge base, and ensuring SMEs achieve their goals."
Haitham al Rasbi, General Manager of Afaq Engineering Consulting Company and a participant, stated, "Participation in this training programme is beneficial for SMEs, providing us with valuable insights into the green hydrogen sector and its opportunities."
The training programme prioritises practical industry outcomes, ensuring that participants and SMEs achieve commercial success. Graduates will gain industry-relevant skills, and the follow-on course in Australia will offer practical fieldwork and site visits, providing insights into the industry's internal workings.
This initiative is expected to lead to direct employment opportunities for Omanis and an increase in successful SMEs in Oman's growth sectors. Graduates and SMEs will have the chance to work with international companies entering Oman and access significant commercial opportunities in the $37 billion renewable energy industry.
