Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman is ranked first in the world for eliminating invasive birds, making significant strides in promoting a well-rounded ecosystem.

According to the Environment Authority, the campaign, initiated in December 2022, has successfully removed over one million invasive birds, with notable progress reported across some governorates.

North Al Batinah witnessed the largest impact, where approximately 621,592 invasive birds were controlled. In South Al Batinah, 203,077 birds have been eliminated so far, while in Dhofar and Muscat, 126,700 and 50,012 invasive birds were removed respectively.

The campaign's success underscores the need for continued efforts and sustainable strategies to manage and reduce the populations of invasive birds, ensuring the protection of Oman’s biodiversity and natural ecosystems for future generations.
