Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman has been ranked 68th globally in the World Social Progress Index for 2024, according to a report, recently issued by the United States-based Social Progress Imperative organization.

With the current position, the Sultanate of Oman has advanced 18 places in this year's index.

At the Arab world level, Oman has secured fourth place after Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar.

Denmark topped the index followed by Norway and then Finland, while South Sudan was ranked at the bottom, followed by the Central African Republic.

The index aims to measure the level of social progress in countries, based on a country’s ability to meet the basic needs of its citizens, enhance their quality of life, and preserve it.

Counted as the most comprehensive index to measure the social and environmental performance of countries regardless of economic factors, the index is based on several criteria that measure well-being, opportunities, and basic human needs. Nonetheless, it also covers results related to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
