MUSCAT: The Ministry of Labour is strengthening social dialogue and cooperation among the government, employers and workers to promote a stable, resilient and productive labour market, with the Joint Dialogue Committee Affairs Section playing a central role in supporting these efforts.
Hussain bin Ali al Lawati, Director-General of the General Directorate of Labour Welfare, said the section serves as a key pillar of Oman’s social dialogue framework by facilitating communication and mutual understanding among the three production partners. He noted that social dialogue has become an important mechanism for balancing economic and social interests while creating a work environment that supports investment, productivity and sustainable development.
Al Lawati explained that the section provides technical, administrative and analytical support to the Joint Dialogue Committee, ensuring the effective organisation of discussions among government representatives, employers and workers. Its responsibilities include preparing meeting agendas, documenting discussions, following up on decisions and monitoring the implementation of recommendations in coordination with relevant authorities.
He highlighted that the section’s role extends beyond administrative functions, as it conducts specialised studies, analyses labour market trends and evaluates employment data to support evidence-based policies. By providing accurate information and research, the section helps committee members address emerging challenges, develop practical solutions and enhance cooperation among stakeholders.
The section also prepares periodic and annual reports covering the committee’s activities, achievements and recommendations, helping assess progress and identify areas requiring further action. These reports contribute to improving labour relations and ensuring that social dialogue remains an effective tool for addressing workplace and economic issues.
Al Lawati said the committee continues to monitor developments affecting Oman’s labour market and various economic sectors, allowing it to respond proactively to changing conditions. Through research, analysis and consultation, the committee supports policies aimed at protecting employment, improving workplace relations and maintaining labour market balance.
He added that strengthening institutional capabilities remains a priority, with efforts focused on developing databases, improving performance indicators and enhancing the professional skills of staff involved in supporting the committee’s work. These initiatives contribute to greater efficiency and ensure that decisions are based on reliable information and long-term strategic planning.
The Director-General affirmed that the efforts of the Joint Dialogue Committee Affairs Section are aligned with the Ministry of Labour’s vision of promoting cooperation, shared responsibility and constructive engagement among all labour market partners. He said these efforts play an important role in supporting Oman’s sustainable development goals and enhancing the competitiveness of the national economy.
The increasing importance of the Joint Dialogue Committee reflects Oman’s commitment to building a balanced labour market through partnership and dialogue. By creating a structured platform for government, employers and workers to exchange views and develop solutions, the committee continues to contribute to stronger labour relations and long-term economic and social stability.
