Muscat: The bilateral relations of Oman and Azerbaijan are all set to scale high in future as the friendly nations share their common priorities, including private-sector growth, logistics, renewable energy, digital transformation and human capital, towards creating a natural platform for cooperation and are on the path to implementing ambitious national development agendas, says Rashad Ismayilov, Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Sultanate of Oman.
Speaking on the mutual understanding, he said while the Sultanate has aligned all its priorities with the Oman Vision 2040, Azerbaijan's long-term socio-economic strategy is based on seeking diversified, innovation-driven and sustainable economies, making the two countries an excellent example of how bilateral relationship can continue to evolve into a modern strategic partnership.
“The bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and the Sultanate of Oman have gained remarkable momentum in recent years. The opening of the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Muscat marked a new chapter, strengthening political dialogue, expanding institutional cooperation and creating fresh opportunities in trade, investment, tourism, culture and education, besides sharing fundamental principles of foreign policy: respect for sovereignty, adherence to international law, dialogue, moderation and mutually beneficial cooperation providing both of us a strong foundation for deeper engagement across many sectors,” he said.
He opined that just as how Azerbaijan has become an important transport, logistics and energy hub linking Europe and Asia through the Middle Corridor, the Port of Baku, the Alat Free Economic Zone and modern railway infrastructure under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, Oman, under the leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, continues to strengthen its position as a global logistics gateway through the ports of Duqm, Sohar and Salalah. “Closer cooperation between these transport ecosystems would strengthen regional connectivity, diversify supply chains and create new commercial opportunities linking the Gulf, the South Caucasus, Central Asia and Europe.“In terms off energy, he opined that Azerbaijan has long contributed to international energy security and is now investing heavily in renewable energy and green electricity.
“Oman has emerged as a regional leader in green hydrogen and clean-energy development. Combining expertise, investment and technology could create mutually beneficial projects supporting the global energy transition.”Both countries are investor-friendly and provide a stable macroeconomic environment, modern legislation, industrial parks, free economic zones, world-class infrastructure, investor-friendly policies and a dynamic private sector.
In terms of tourism, while Oman captivates visitors with its landscapes, heritage and hospitality, Azerbaijan offers the Caspian coast, mountain resorts, wellness tourism and a rich multicultural history. Enhanced promotion and improved connectivity would significantly increase visitor flows between our countries. He believes that Azerbaijan's agricultural potential and Oman's strategic investment priorities create favourable conditions for joint ventures in food production, agribusiness, agricultural technologies and sustainable farming.
Also, People-to-people contacts, academic exchanges, innovation partnerships, youth cooperation and cultural dialogue strengthen mutual understanding and ensure that future generations continue building upon today's achievements. “The friendship between Azerbaijan and Oman is built on confidence, respect and shared aspirations. Today, that friendship is steadily evolving into a comprehensive strategic partnership that will contribute not only to the prosperity of our two nations but also to regional connectivity, sustainable development and long-term stability. I am confident that the best chapters of Azerbaijan–Oman relations are still ahead of us,” he further said.
