MUSCAT: The Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) has warned the car accessories shops that offer vehicle glass tinting services against the price hike after the Royal Oman Police (ROP) issued a statement allowing 50 per cent more tinting.
This warning comes in the wake of complaints that some accessory shops raised charges for glass tinting in a bid to exploit the increased demand for vehicle tinting services during the summer season to make unjustified gains, according to the CPA.
To curb the overcharging, the Authority has begun to monitor the markets, track the prices of tinting services, and ensure that commercial establishments adhere to fair pricing and do not impose unjustified increases on consumers.
"We, at the CPA, continue to intensify our monitoring of car accessory shops that offer vehicle window tinting services. This comes in conjunction with the decision issued by the Royal Oman Police allowing the tinting of all side and rear windows of vehicles at a rate not exceeding 50 per cent, while continuing to prohibit the tinting of the front windshield, as part of the Authority's commitment to protecting consumer rights and ensuring market stability," a statement from the Authority said.
The inspection campaigns also include verifying the providers' compliance with the systems and regulations governing consumer protection, ensuring price transparency and disclosure and monitoring any commercial practices that may violate the principles of fair competition or infringe on consumer rights, with legal actions taken against any violations detected in accordance with the provisions of the Consumer Protection Law and its executive regulations.
Further, the CPA has called on all providers to adhere to transparency and the applicable regulations, and not to exploit seasonal changes or increased demand to raise prices without justification. It also urged consumers to report any violations or illegal commercial practices through the Authority's official communication channels, contributing to enhanced oversight and the protection of consumer rights.
