Muscat: The Environment Authority (EA) has issued a warning following the circulation of a video showing an individual diving to film an orca whale in the Qantab area of Muscat Governorate.
In a statement issued on Thursday, February 12, 2026, the authority stressed that such behaviour is dangerous and poses a serious risk to personal safety.
The EA explained that the orca is a powerful wild marine mammal and is not domesticated, making its behaviour unpredictable. It noted that the animal may react aggressively if it senses danger.
The authority urged the public to observe marine wildlife from boats or from a safe distance and to refrain from diving or approaching marine creatures, in order to protect lives and respect natural ecosystems.
The EA reiterated that public safety is a shared responsibility and called on all to adhere to environmental guidelines when interacting with wildlife.
