The 2026 Karate Referees and Judges Training Course concluded successfully after being held over two days under the supervision of international expert Shihan bin Ahmed bin Said al Zakwani, holder of the 7th Dan black belt and an internationally certified referee by the World Karate Federation (WKF), as well as a member of the Oman Karate Committee. The course was organised through a special invitation from FISKA and ISSKA Honbu Karate Center in Salalah.

The course witnessed the participation of several karate players and coaches interested in the field of refereeing. It aimed to enhance participants’ knowledge of WKF regulations and develop their refereeing skills in both kumite and kata competitions, contributing to raising the standard of officiating in the Sultanate of Oman.

The first day of the course included a detailed explanation of kumite (sparring) rules, along with clarifying the roles and responsibilities of referees and judges. This was followed by practical applications and field exercises that helped reinforce theoretical concepts and strengthen the participants’ practical understanding.

The second day was dedicated to kata officiating, featuring theoretical lectures and practical simulations of real refereeing situations. Shihan bin Ahmed al Zakwani directly supervised the sessions to ensure a higher level of understanding and confidence among the trainees, while also introducing them to the latest amendments and approved regulations for 2026.

At the conclusion of the course, the organisers expressed their appreciation to Shihan al Zakwani for his outstanding efforts in delivering this specialised programme and for sharing valuable technical and officiating expertise with the participants. FISKA and ISSKA Honbu Salalah honoured him with a commemorative medal and appreciation award in recognition of his significant role and contributions to the development of karate in Oman.

The organisers emphasised that the course represented a valuable addition for participants, providing them with officiating knowledge and experience that support both technical development and physical training. They also praised the continuous efforts of the Oman Karate Committee in supporting, developing and promoting karate in the Sultanate.
