MUSCAT: The Oman Hockey Association (OHA) concluded the FIH-AHF Level 2 Coaching Course on Sunday, following five days of intensive theoretical and practical sessions aimed at strengthening the technical capabilities of national coaches and supporting the development pathway of hockey in the Sultanate of Oman.

The closing ceremony was held under the auspices of Dr Marwan bin Juma al Juma, Chairman of the Oman Hockey Association, who honoured the participating coaches at the end of the programme.

The course was organised by the Oman Hockey Association in cooperation with the Asian Hockey Federation and the International Hockey Federation, with the participation of 26 coaches, including five female coaches. The programme focused on modern coaching methods, player development, training planning, match management, team values and standards, and strategies for developing players from grassroots to higher competitive stages.

International lecturer Ghazanfar Ali, who supervised the course, praised the participants' commitment and interaction throughout the five days. He said the course reflected the strong potential of Omani coaches, particularly at the grassroots level, adding that Oman Hockey’s work in developing academies and training centres is an important step for the future of the game.

He also highlighted the strong presence of female coaches, describing it as a positive sign for the growth of women’s hockey in Oman. He noted that the female participants showed enthusiasm, talent and a clear desire to learn, which would contribute to expanding the role of women in the sport.

Former Egypt national team player and Oman Club coach Islam Hassan al Wahsh said the course provided valuable knowledge that would help coaches support players at clubs and centres. He said the sessions focused on the details of skill development, how to follow up with players during training, and how to guide them both on and off the field.

Coach Hamoud al Wahaibi expressed his appreciation to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth (MoCSY) and the Oman Hockey Association (OHA) for organising the course. He said the programme helped coaches update their technical knowledge, improve their approach to player development and understand the latest trends in international hockey.

Former national team player Ala bint Sulaiman al Balushi said completing the Level 2 course was an important step in her coaching journey. She said the course helped her understand how to work with young players, build a positive relationship with children, and guide them from the early stages of learning the game.

The course forms part of the Oman Hockey Association’s efforts to prepare qualified national coaches, enhance the quality of training in clubs and centres, and support the long-term development of hockey in Oman.
