MUSCAT: The Technology and Artificial Intelligence in Sports Training course, organised by Oman Olympic Academy (OOA) affiliated with Oman Olympic Committee in cooperation with Olympic Solidarity, commenced yesterday. The course runs from February 15 to 17 at the Academy’s headquarters, with the participation of nominees from various sectors related to sports affairs. It is held as part of ongoing efforts to develop national competencies and enhance professional qualification standards within the sports sector.
The course comes amid the rapid transformations witnessed globally in the sports industry, where technology and artificial intelligence have become fundamental components of modern sports preparation systems — whether in planning training programmes, monitoring performance, analysing data, or deriving indicators that support informed decision-making. In this context, Oman Olympic Academy seeks to equip coaches and professionals working in sports institutions with advanced knowledge and practical tools that enhance training efficiency and align with internationally recognised best practices.
The course is delivered by Professor Majid bin Said al Busafi, Professor of Sports Training at the Department of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, College of Education, Sultan Qaboos University, and Director of Humanities Research Centre at the university. The course ultimately aims to enable participants to design and implement technology-based training programmes, analyse sports data systematically, and utilise analytical outcomes to develop more efficient and effective training decisions that improve performance levels and strengthen prospects for achievement in various competitions.
The programme focuses on creating a qualitative shift in training methodologies by introducing participants to the concepts of technology and artificial intelligence within the sports context, while presenting practical applications in physical and technical performance analysis, monitoring training loads, and measuring performance indicators to ensure the development of more precise and effective training programmes. It also promotes a culture of data-driven decision-making to reduce reliance on subjective judgement and enhance objectivity in performance evaluation.
The course also highlights mechanisms for linking analytical results to training plans and developing innovative, technology-driven training approaches in a systematic and well-structured manner.
Hosting this course reflects the commitment of Oman Olympic Academy to strengthening cooperation with international institutions— foremost among them Olympic Solidarity — to support the implementation of high-quality programmes, expand developmental initiatives, and provide national cadres with specialised training opportunities, in line with broader efforts to advance the sports system and elevate performance and achievement standards.
