MUSCAT: The Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning, in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, signed 18 agricultural usufruct contracts for investment projects across several governorates in the Sultanate of Oman.

The agreements carry a combined investment value exceeding RO 1.9 million and cover an estimated 300 acres, distributed across the Governorates of Al Buraimi, Al Sharqiyah North, Al Batinah North, Al Batinah South, Al Wusta and Dhofar, reflecting a geographically balanced approach to agricultural development.

The projects span a range of activities, including the cultivation of wild trees, beekeeping and vegetable production using modern technologies, alongside grape farming in Al Sharqiyah North. They also include fodder and field crop cultivation, as well as the production of guava, sapodilla and onions. In addition, a frankincense production project is planned in Dhofar, while Al Batinah South will host an industrial project focused on water purification and bottling.

The initiative underscores coordination between government entities and aligns with national priorities to optimise the use of agricultural land through sustainable investment. These projects are expected to enhance domestic production efficiency, strengthen food supply chains and expand agricultural investment opportunities across the governorates.

The agricultural sector has seen growing momentum, with more than 585 usufruct contracts signed last year, highlighting its increasing role in supporting food security and sustainable local production.

Officials said the latest agreements reflect continued investment activity in agriculture, contributing to economic diversification, empowering entrepreneurs and promoting efficient utilisation of natural resources, while adding value to state-owned land.

The signing ceremony was attended by Eng Hamad bin Ali al Nazwani, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning for Housing; and Dr Ahmed bin Nasser al Bakri, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources for Agriculture, along with several officials from the sector. — ONA
