MUSCAT: Dr Abdulrahim bin Muslim Al Daroushi, Chairman of the Oman Racket Sports Committee, participated in the General Assembly meeting of the Asian Badminton Confederation, held on March 28, 2026, in Bali, Indonesia, with the attendance of representatives from 32 member nations and senior officials from both the continental and international federations.

The meeting addressed several key topics, including financial performance, development programmes and initiatives, as well as strategies to enhance the training and qualification of technical and administrative personnel across Asia. Discussions also covered the action plan for the current year and ways to improve the quality of hosting developmental tournaments across the continent.

On the sidelines of the assembly, Dr Al Daroushi held a series of meetings with Asian federation officials to explore opportunities for technical and administrative cooperation. He also presented several initiatives that the committee aims to implement in Oman, particularly in promoting women’s participation in sports, expanding the base of players, and increasing access for wider segments of the community.

He also discussed key strategic matters with the President of the Badminton World Federation, focusing on talent development, enhancing training programmes, and supporting specialised training centres in line with international best practices.

Dr Al Daroushi highlighted the significant progress achieved by the Asian Badminton Confederation in terms of the diversity and quality of its programmes, supported by increased financial investment in regional and international competitions, as well as development initiatives aimed at raising the standard of the sport across member countries.

He emphasised the importance of benefiting from these programmes to promote badminton across Oman, with a particular focus on youth development as the foundation for building competitive future athletes.

Dr Al Daroushi also revealed the committee’s intention to host international tournaments over the next two years, noting that this proposal received strong support from Asian federation officials, further strengthening Oman’s presence on the continental and global sports stage.

This participation reflects the committee’s commitment to enhancing its international engagement and contributing to the development of badminton at both regional and global levels.
