MUSCAT: Sultan Qaboos University has achieved notable progress in the QS World University Rankings by Subject for 2026, a milestone that reflects the quality of its academic programmes and reinforces its standing among the world's leading universities.


This year's edition evaluated 6,273 universities globally, with 1,908 institutions being ranked — marking the largest release to date. The rankings covered 55 distinct academic disciplines across five broad subject areas.


The university also saw growth in the number of programmes ranked, rising to 20 compared to 17 in 2025, indicating a clear expansion of its global academic presence.


Furthermore, the number of programmes ranked among the top 500 globally increased from 15 to 19, reflecting a qualitative improvement in academic performance.


At the level of top-tier programmes, the university achieved a strong presence within the world's top 50. The petroleum engineering programme advanced to 17th place globally, up from 25th, while the nursing programme climbed to 25th from 32nd. In addition, the library and information management programme was ranked 44th globally. — ONA
