Muscat: Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) achieved a significant academic milestone by ranking third in the 2025 Arab Ranking for Universities. This regional classification is organized by the Association of Arab Universities (AArU) which is based in Amman, Jordan, an affiliate of the Arab League, in collaboration with the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) and the Federation of Arab Scientific Research Councils.
The ranking is distinguished by its objective evaluation mechanism, which relies on automated data processing and classification without human intervention. This approach provides credible and clear indicators of the academic, research, and scientific realities of participating institutions. The evaluation is built upon four primary pillars: the quality of education and learning, scientific research productivity, creativity and innovation and international and local cooperation combined with community service.
This edition marks the third iteration of the ranking, in which Sultan Qaboos University participated for the first time. SQU successfully secured its third-place position among 236 Arab universities that met the strict classification requirements, representing a total of 20 Arab countries. This debut achievement underscores the university's rapid integration into regional excellence frameworks and its competitive edge in the Arab academic landscape.
Consolidating its status as a leading educational and research institution, this ranking adds a new dimension to SQU’s journey. It reflects the university’s commitment to its strategic vision of achieving academic excellence and supporting a knowledge-based economy. Such achievements directly align with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040, specifically in enhancing the research and innovation ecosystem and expanding regional and international partnerships to build highly capable graduates and researchers.
