The Civil Defence and Amulance Authority (CDAA) has urged caution to motorists as well as people living in low-lying areas, as the flash floods claimed two members of a family on Sunday in Barka.

The two dead as their vehicle fell into a deep gorge have been identified as Shamila, wife of Lubishad who is running a bicycle shop in Barka Souq, along with his friend Yusuf and their bodies are kept in Royal Hospital.

The families of Lubishad and Yusuf were returning from a friend's house in Barka after spending Eid holidays with them when it fell into a ditch inside the souk.

The accident took place around 1 am last night. 6 people, including Lubishad and his children, survived the accident. The bodies found have been kept at the Barka Government Hospital morgue. KMCC said that further proceedings are in progress.

"A vehicle carrying ten people was swept away in the state of Barka in the South Al Batinah Governorate, where seven of them were rescued, and two people were found dead, while the search is still ongoing for one missing person," CDAA said.

"Do not venture out with your vehicle or visit wadis during the adverse weather as the flashfloods would remain for several hours even after the rains. Precaution is always better and people should cooperate with the Authority to safeguard lives and properties," a spokesperson from the CDAA said.
