Muscat: The Ministry of Health (MoH) announced a voluntary recall and withdrawal of specific batches of Danone products from the Omani market, in coordination with the company, as part of its regulatory oversight to ensure consumer safety.

In a statement, the ministry said the decision follows recent scientific and international updates regarding the presence of cereulide, a toxin produced by the bacterium Bacillus cereus. The move takes into consideration the scientific opinion issued by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) on February 2, 2026, which established an acute reference dose (ARfD) for the substance, particularly concerning infants.

The ministry clarified that the precautionary measure aligns with the latest scientific developments and does not indicate confirmed health risks to consumers. Rather, it reflects the commitment of health authorities and the company to uphold the highest standards of quality and food safety.

EFSA was acknowledged for its role in strengthening food safety standards across Europe, while Danone’s swift cooperation in implementing the voluntary recall and technical corrective measures was commended as part of internationally recognised regulatory practices aimed at reinforcing scientific confidence.

The Ministry of Health affirmed that it has taken all necessary steps in coordination with relevant authorities and the concerned company to withdraw the affected batches from Omani markets and to monitor the implementation process, underscoring its continued commitment to safeguarding public health and community wellbeing.
