KHASAB: The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources has successfully completed the construction and operational launch of a cloud seeding station in the Wilayat of Khasab, Musandam Governorate, marking a significant milestone in Oman's sustained efforts to enhance precipitation levels, develop groundwater reserves and advance comprehensive water sustainability objectives.
The station's effective operational range extends approximately 70 kilometres from its strategic location towards both northwest and southern trajectories, calibrated according to geographical parameters and prevailing meteorological conditions. This positioning optimises cloud formation opportunities and stimulates rainfall in carefully identified target areas, maximising the initiative's hydrological impact.
This project represents an integral component of Oman's advanced cloud seeding programme utilising ionic technology, which systematically enhances cloud condensation processes and increases precipitation probability. The facility constitutes the fourteenth operational station within Oman's expanding national network, which strategically encompasses eleven stations distributed across the Eastern and Western Hajar Mountains, one station in Musandam Governorate, and two stations in Dhofar Governorate's mountain ranges — ensuring comprehensive geographical coverage and seamless operational integration of the national cloud seeding infrastructure.
The initiative embodies the ministry's strategic commitment to adopting cutting-edge technologies and innovative methodologies in water resource governance, reinforcing national water security imperatives while strengthening ecological systems' resilience and adaptive capacity in response to climate variability. The project simultaneously advances broader sustainable development objectives through enhanced water availability.
The ministry continues its systematic evaluation of prospective sites where favourable climatic and topographical conditions converge, ensuring operational ranges remain non-overlapping with existing stations to guarantee optimal efficiency, maximum geographical coverage, and judicious distribution of national water enhancement projects. - ONA
