MUSCAT, FEB 23

The Oman national football team will compete in the Azerbaijan-hosted group alongside Azerbaijan, Sierra Leone and Saint Lucia as part of the Fifa Series scheduled for March 2026.

Oman will open their campaign against Sierra Leone on Friday, March 27, at 3 pm (Oman time) at Dalga Arena, while hosts Azerbaijan will face Saint Lucia on the same day in the other group fixture.

Under the tournament format, the winner of Oman’s clash with Sierra Leone will meet the winner of Azerbaijan versus Saint Lucia on Monday, March 30, at 7 pm (Oman time), while the two losing teams will contest the third-place match earlier that day at 3 pm.

Oman's Portuguese head coach Carlos Queiroz is overseeing preparations for the March international window and is currently in the Sultanate of Oman following the domestic top-tier Jindal Football League matches to assess players ahead of naming the final squad.

The Oman Football Association (OFA) is expected to announce the preliminary squad soon, marking the start of the national team’s training camp preparations for the March Fifa Series 2026.

The Fifa Series 2026 marks the second edition of the global initiative launched by Fifa to provide structured international match opportunities during the official windows. For the first time, the competition will feature both men’s and women’s tournaments, bringing together a total of 48 national teams from across the six continental confederations.

This year’s edition consists of 12 groups, nine in the men’s competition and three in the women’s competition. The men’s tournament will include 36 teams divided into nine groups of four teams, while the women’s competition will feature 12 teams across three groups of four.

Men’s matches will be staged across Australia, Azerbaijan, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, Rwanda — which will host two separate groups — and Uzbekistan, offering participating teams varied competitive environments and international exposure.

Among the participating nations are five teams that have already secured qualification for the 2026 Fifa World Cup, alongside several emerging football nations. From the Conmebol region, Chile and Venezuela will compete in the men’s tournament, while Brazil will participate in the women’s competition.
