The Oman national e-sports team will take part in the sixth edition of the West Asian Football Electronic Championship, hosted in Aqaba, Jordan, on October 10 and 11 at Al Thawra Square. The event features both men’s and women’s teams, jointly organised by the West Asian Football Federation and the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority, in cooperation with the Jordanian E-Sports Federation.

TOURNAMENT DRAW

The draw placed the women’s national teams into a single group consisting of Oman, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Bahrain and Jordan.

For the men’s competition, the draw resulted in two groups, group A: Oman, Jordan, Bahrain, UAE, and Iraq. group B: Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Lebanon and Kuwait.

COMPETITION FORMAT

The women’s championship will be played in a two-round league system (home and away). The top two teams will advance to the final, which will be decided in a best-of-three format. Teams finishing third and fourth will also meet under the same system to determine rankings.

The men’s championship will follow a group stage played in a round-robin format, with the top team of Group A facing the runner-up of Group B, and the top team of Group B meeting the runner-up of Group A in the semi-finals. The winners will progress to the final, which will also be decided in a best-of-three series.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE TOURNAMENT

The West Asian Football Federation will later announce the official match schedule and details of digital streaming platforms for live broadcasting. This edition marks the first time the championship is held in Aqaba, reflecting growing investment interest in the rapidly expanding global e-sports sector.

The tournament is part of the West Asian Federation’s wider efforts to expand the reach of e-sports across the region in response to the rising enthusiasm from both male and female participants. It is worth noting that the Jordanian E-Sports Federation hosted the fifth edition last year, and the championship has become one of the region’s most prominent competitive events, with broad participation from member countries.
