The Majlis Ash’shura on Wednesday elected Mansour bin Zahir al Hajri as Deputy Chairman of the Majlis Ash’shura for the remainder of the Tenth Term (2023–2027), following two rounds of voting held to fill the vacant post.


The election was conducted in accordance with the Majlis’s approved electronic voting procedures, as announced by the Secretary-General of the Majlis Ash’shura.


Nominations for the position were subsequently opened, with seven members standing for election: Ahmed bin Said al Balushi, representative of the Wilayat of Al Seeb, Salem bin Ali al Kaabi, representative of the Wilayat of Mahadha, Said bin Mohammed al Saadi, representative of the Wilayat of Jaalan Bani Bu Ali, Dr Talal bin Said al Maharbi, representative of the Wilayat of Bidbid, Mohammed bin Hassan al Ansi, representative of the Wilayat of Salalah, Mohammed bin Masoud al Obthani, representative of the Wilayat of Dhalkout, and Mansour bin Zahir al Hajri, representative of the Wilayat of Bidiyah.


The sitting commenced with an address by Khalid bin Hilal al Maawali, Chairman of Majlis Ash’shura, who noted that the agenda included the election of the Deputy Chairman, a briefing on a draft amendment to certain provisions of the Penal Code and the discussion and approval of draft laws referred by the Government.
