MUSCAT: The British Omani Society (BOS) has announced its 2026 Art Group project, reinforcing its commitment to nurturing emerging artistic talent and strengthening cultural ties between the United Kingdom and the Sultanate of Oman.

The initiative marks the opening of the Society’s Golden Jubilee year, celebrating 50 years of partnership, cultural exchange and shared endeavour between the two nations.

Building on the success of its inaugural project — during which four Omani artists spent a month in the UK refining their skills and exhibiting their work— the 2026 programme shifts the exchange to Oman.

This year, established British artists Lucy Corbett and Michelle McCullagh, supported by Polly Gedney, will travel to Oman from January 16 to 24, to lead a series of workshops with emerging Omani artists.

The workshops aim to deepen artistic practice, encourage creative experimentation and foster meaningful collaboration, while supporting education and skills exchange.

By promoting innovation and creative capacity, the project contributes to the objectives of Oman Vision 2040, particularly in building national capabilities, expanding cultural tourism and showcasing Oman’s heritage on the global stage.

The BOS Art Group was launched at the British Embassy in Muscat in January 2024 and the 2026 programme will also be supported by last year’s Omani participants — Ahmed al Qasimi, Majid al Amri, Sara al Hosni and Al Muntasir Nasser — who continue to play an active role in the group’s development.

The project is organised by the British Omani Society, supported by the British Embassy in Muscat and generously sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth (MoCSY).

Following the workshops, the British Embassy will host an exhibition showcasing the collaborative works produced by both British and Omani artists, celebrating artistic achievement and the enduring cultural partnership between the UK and Oman.

This initiative reflects the British Omani Society’s ongoing dedication to advancing artistic development, cultural exchange, and bilateral relations through the arts.
