Muscat:  The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources has announced the end of the shrimp fishing season in the Sultanate of Oman for the current year, with the season concluding at the end of November. The ministry confirmed that a fishing ban will take effect from December 1, 2025, and will remain in place until August 31, 2026.

The ministry has called on all fishermen and those involved in shrimp marketing to visit local ministry offices to register their available quantities before the ban period begins. It stressed that no trading or export of shrimp will be permitted during the ban, except for quantities that have been officially recorded in advance.

The ministry also reminded fishermen that violations of the ban fall under the provisions of the Living Aquatic Wealth Law. Anyone found fishing for shrimp during the prohibited period may face a fine of up to RO 5,000, in addition to other penalties such as confiscation of gear or the temporary or permanent withdrawal of licences.
