Shawahen, Karamah, Mirdaf shine at Haima camel race

MUSCAT: ‘Shawahen’, owned by Ghadir al Harsousi, captured the main round title in the Hagayeg category over 3 km, recording an impressive time of 4:45 minutes at the conclusion of the camel race in Haima on Thursday, organised by the Oman Camel Racing Federation (OCRF).


The race, held under the auspices of Shaikh Mohammed bin Ali al Ghufaili, Wali of Haima, was sponsored by Occidental Oman Incorporated.


‘Karamah’, owned by Dleikm al Amri, secured the top spot in the main round with a time of 6:26 minutes in the Lagaya category over 4 km.


‘Mirdaf’, owned by Mohammed al Junaibi, claimed victory in the main round of the Elythaa category over 4 km, finishing in 6:28 minutes.


The competitions were started with one round for Elythaa category, four years old, over 4 km. Two rounds were for the Lagaya category, three year old, over 4 km. The day’s action concluded with seven rounds for the Hagayeg category, two year old, over a distance of 3 km.

FOURTH RACE


The Oman Camel Racing Federation in cooperation with Royal Camel Corps will organise the fourth race of the annual camel season from November 16 to 20.


The Royal Camel Corps (RCC) recently announced that RCC would purchase the winning camel with the best timing from some Hagayeg, Lagaya and Elythaa categories.


In addition, RCC considered the fourth race as the first qualifying race for the final race, HM’s Cup, which will be held in April 2026, while the winning camel in main rounds will qualify for the final.


The fourth race will begin on Sunday, November 16, with 25 rounds dedicated to the Hagayeg categories, two years old, over a distance of 3 km.


On Monday, November 17, the track will host 12 rounds, including 8 rounds for the Hagayeg category over 4 km, in addition to three rounds for human riders over 2 km.


Competitions will continue on Tuesday, November 18, featuring the Lagaya categories, three years old, with 15 rounds over 5 km.

On Wednesday, November 19, the Elythaa category, four years old, will headline the programme with 13 rounds, including 6 rounds over 6 km, and 7 rounds over 5 km.


The concluding day, Thursday, November 20, will feature the Thanaya category, five years old, with 6 rounds. It will be followed by 6 rounds for the Al Hawl categories, six and above years old, over 6 km.
