

THAMRAIT: The curtain came down on Saturday evening on the second edition of the Thamrait Summer Camel Race 2025, held at the Wilayat of Thamrait’s race track in the Governorate of Dhofar. The event, organised by the Office of the Wali of Thamrait, drew a large audience of camel owners, breeders and enthusiasts.
The programme featured five competitive rounds: four for the 'participant' weanling category over two kilometres, and one for the “difficult” weanling category over 1.5 kilometres.
The highlights of the results are:
Second round (Jaadan–cash category): 'Saib,' owned by Ramis bin Salem Jadad, secured first place.
Al Sa’ab round (Abkar category): 'Mahdia,' owned by Malhi bin Ali al Masahli, claimed top honours.
Third round (Abkar category): 'Al Sharta,' owned by Muslim bin Mohammed Jadad, finished first.
Fourth round (Jaadan–Sara round): 'Sayyaf,' owned by Abdullah bin Farih Masan, took first place.
Final round (Car round): 'Maani,' owned by Noah bin Muslim al Masahli, emerged victorious.
The event concluded with Ahmed bin Hamad al Maawali, Wali of Thamrait and event sponsor, honouring the winners along with supporting entities.
The Thamrait Summer Camel Race highlights Oman’s dedication to preserving camel racing as an authentic heritage sport while strengthening its role as a cultural attraction that contributes to domestic tourism and enhances Oman’s presence across the Gulf. — ONA
