BRUSSELS: The EU executive urged finance ministers to impose a fee from 2026 on low-value packages from platforms like Temu and Shein, targeting a flood of cheap Chinese imports. Currently, parcels under 150 euros ($174) face no levy. EU trade chief Maros Sefcovic called for a temporary solution next year, citing pressure from European industries to remove competition distortions. While the fee level is unspecified, ministers are expected to agree on a simplified temporary customs fee and improved IT tools. Some member states, including Romania, have already imposed fees on small parcels ahead of the EU-wide plan.— AFP
