US President Donald Trump will give an "important" speech on the state of the Iran war, his spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said.

Trump will address the nation on Wednesday with an "important update" on Iran at 9 pm (0100 GMT Thursday), she said.

Trump said shortly before that the United States would end its attacks in Iran in two to three weeks. He said he thought his country would need maybe two weeks or maybe a few days more to end the war.

Trump said there did not have to be a deal with Iran for the US military operation to end. That was "irrelevant" because they wouldensure that the rulers of the Islamic Republic could not buildnuclear weapons.

The US-Israeli war with Iran has now entered its second month.
