Muscat: The Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the private sector, is all set to conduct nationwide diabetes screening and assessment to mark World Diabetes Day on November 14 and 15 in 122 locations around the country.

With an ambitious target of 20,000 free diabetes screenings, the initiative stands as one of the largest public health awareness efforts in the nation. This year's World Diabetes Day 2025 theme is “Diabetes and Well-Being.”

The Director-General of Private Health Establishment, Dr Muhanna al Musalhi, said, "The initiative is to motivate the private sector to take care of the community. On the occasion of World Diabetes Day, several other government entities and health organisations across Oman are also launching awareness activities, reflecting a unified national effort to combat diabetes. The collaboration between public and private sectors underscores Oman’s proactive approach towards a healthier society."

He pointed out that the data collected will be handed over to the Ministry of Health in complete confidentiality.

This year's theme indicates that diabetes care is not just about controlling blood sugar. It is also about helping people feel healthy, happy and supported in their daily lives. Good well-being means having access to the right food, medicine, exercise and emotional support.

"Our national diabetes screening and risk assessment campaign is in line with the goal of this year’s theme," said Abdul Latheef, Managing Director of Badr Al Samaa Group of Hospitals, who is also the board member of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Dr Muhanna noted, “This initiative aligns perfectly with the Ministry of Health’s vision to strengthen preventive healthcare and early detection. After screening, the participants who may need further evaluation have various options; Omanis can benefit from the free advanced Diabetes Screening programme of the Ministry of Health, and they and the residents can continue with Badr Al Samaa or any other medical provider of their choice. We appreciate the efforts of Badr Al Samaa Group for partnering with us to reach communities across Oman."

Dr P A Mohamed, Managing Director of Badr Al Samaa Group of Hospitals, said, “The trust of the people has made us grow into the largest healthcare provider in the Sultanate of Oman. This trust was built by providing exceptional care to the patients and undertaking such initiatives in the interest of the public. We feel it as our moral responsibility to contribute to the improved health of the community. And we will undertake more such initiatives in the future as well."
