

RZESZÓW: An Omani delegation comprising doctors and medical students from Sultan Qaboos University, the University Medical City, and the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland won four awards at the Rzeszów International Medical Students’ Association Conference held in Rzeszów, Poland.
One of the most prominent scientific conferences dedicated to medical students and doctors in the early stages of their research careers, the conference aims to encourage the exchange of knowledge and promote a culture of scientific research, bringing together participants from around the world to present their research, scientific posters and visual presentations.
This year’s conference saw the participation of 300 researchers, medical students, and young doctors from Europe, North America, and Asia, featuring 61 oral presentations and 40 research posters from various countries.
The Omani delegation stood out by winning four awards for best research. Dr Abdullah bin Mohammed al Lawati, a graduate of the College of Medicine and Health Sciences at Sultan Qaboos University and an intern at Sultan Qaboos University Hospital, received two awards for best research: one for his research poster and the other for his visual presentation in the fields of surgery and basic sciences. The research was supervised by Dr Hanan bint Mustafa al Lawatiyah from the Oman College of Health Sciences and Dr Srijit Das from the College of Medicine and Health Sciences at Sultan Qaboos University.
Azzan bin Juma al Wahshi, a final-year student at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences at Sultan Qaboos University, won an award for best research in the field of psychiatry, supervised by Dr Hamad bin Nasser al Sinawi from Sultan Qaboos University Hospital.
Ayman bin Nasser al Habsi, a student at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, won an award for best research in surgery, supervised by Dr Mohammed al Abri from the Royal Hospital at the Ministry of Health.
Salman bin Yasser al Shukaili, a fifth-year student at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences at Sultan Qaboos University, presented a distinguished visual presentation on surgery at the conference.
