Muscat: The Foreign Ministry on Friday said that it is closely monitoring the situation of the Omani citizens participating in the Global Sumud Flotilla, and is committed to ensuring their safety and facilitating their safe return home.
The Ministry is working diligently, through its partners and networks, to guarantee the safety of its citizens and their safe return home.
At the same time, it calls for the safety of all participants in the fleet to be ensured, and for them not to be exposed to any risks.
The Sultanate of Oman reiterates its call to the international community to fulfill its legal and humanitarian responsibilities, to exert pressure on the occupying forces to cease their repeated violations, and to allow humanitarian aid to reach the Gaza Strip without hindrance.
Meanwhile, the Omani Lawyers Association said it is following developments related to the attacks and violations against civilians in the Gaza Strip, and the ongoing siege and aggression to which the Palestinian people are subjected, which is a clear violation of international laws.
The Association also expressed its grave concern over the arrest of the Omani citizen participating in the flotilla to break the siege, and demanded her immediate release and that of all participants, and ensuring their safety in accordance with relevant international conventions and treaties.
The Oman Human Rights Commission also expressed deep concern regarding the attack on the "Global Sumud Flotilla" in international waters and the arrest of its participants by Israeli authorities.
"This constitutes a violation of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, particularly given the peaceful movement toward the Gaza Strip aimed at delivering humanitarian aid, a noble endeavor to lift the blockade and alleviate the ongoing suffering of civilians trapped in the Strip," OHRC said.
The Commission affirmed that the continued Israeli attacks constitute a violation of fundamental rights and freedoms and the provisions of international humanitarian law, which guarantee the protection of civilians during conflict. It calls for the full release of the detainees, ensuring their safety, and facilitating their return to their countries.
OHRC said it is closely monitoring the efforts made by official authorities in the Sultanate of Oman to ensure the safety of the Omani citizens participating in the flotilla and to secure their return home.
The Commission also continues to coordinate a unified position with the Arab Network of National Human Rights Institutions and seeks to address relevant UN mechanisms to ensure their release, including the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.
