The Omani nationals who took part in the Global Sumud Flotilla humanitarian mission, which aimed to deliver humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, arrived here safely in the Sultanate of Oman on Thursday following coordinated efforts with friendly countries and relevant authorities.
The flotilla, comprising several international participants from different countries, was intercepted earlier this month while attempting to approach the Gaza coast. Among the Omani participants was Dr Omama Mustafa al Lawati.
In a statement issued earlier, the Oman's Foreign Ministry affirmed that it had closely followed the situation of the Omani citizens since the flotilla’s interception and took all necessary measures to ensure their safety and repatriation.
The ministry expressed its appreciation to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and other friendly nations for their cooperation in facilitating the return.
Upon her release, Dr Omama al Lawati was received by Omani Embassy officials in Amman before travelling home.
Her participation in the humanitarian mission reflected Oman’s enduring support for international efforts aimed at alleviating the humanitarian situation in Gaza.
The Global Sumud Flotilla included activists, medical professionals, and volunteers from various parts of the world who sought to deliver humanitarian supplies and show solidarity with the Palestinian people. The Omani participants’ safe return marks the conclusion of the Sultanate’s diplomatic follow-up on the matter.
