

AMMAN: The Sultanate of Oman’s pavilion, honoured as the guest of honour at the 24th Amman International Book Fair, has attracted large numbers of visitors since its opening, drawing significant interest from writers, intellectuals and publishers worldwide.
The pavilion’s unique design reflects a blend of tangible and intangible Omani cultural elements, encapsulated under the theme: “The Sultanate of Oman... A long history, renewed knowledge... and knowledge that illuminates the path.”
Khalfan bin Mohammed al Abri, Director of the Book Fairs Affairs Department at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, said Oman’s participation offers a valuable platform to showcase the nation’s heritage, customs and traditions. He noted strong interest from visitors, researchers, and scholars keen to explore Omani culture and the pavilion’s offerings.
Dr Mohammed Jamal, Editor-in-Chief of Jordan’s Wisam Magazine, expressed pride in hosting Oman as the guest of honour, highlighting Murshid magazine’s role in promoting reading and creativity among young audiences. Dr Nidal bin Ibrahim al Ahmad, Secretary-General of the Jordanian Ministry of Culture, praised the pavilion’s display of encyclopedias and manuscripts that chart Oman’s history, emphasising the cultural convergence between Oman and Jordan.
Dr Rawan bint Burhan al Khanjiyah, educational supervisor at Al Hasad Educational Schools, noted the significance of rare Omani manuscripts on Unesco’s list and appreciated the pavilion’s cultural richness, including tourism films and displays of Omani arts. The writer Safaa bint Subhi al Hattab lauded the pavilion’s diversity and richness, expressing hopes that Oman’s cultural programme would receive enduring attention.
The pavilion features contributions from various Omani institutions, including the Ministry of Information, Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs, Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, Foreign Ministry, Royal Oman Police Academy, Omani Writers and Authors Association, Oman Memory Center and Bait Al Zubair, along with libraries and private publishers such as Al Dhamri Library for Publishing and Distribution and Dar Al Kalimat Al Tayyiba. — ONA
