Muscat: The Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) has successfully resolved complaints filed by consumers against companies operating in the contracting, building materials, and interior design sectors in Muscat Governorate. The settlements resulted in the refund of a total of RO 1,414 after the companies failed to honor contractual obligations and provide agreed services.

According to case details, one consumer had purchased ceramic tiles worth RO 714 from a commercial outlet. However, the store failed to deliver the order, citing unavailability of the required quantity, which led the consumer to request a refund. In another case, a consumer contracted with a store to carry out interior decoration works valued at RO 700, paying an advance of RO 180. The store failed to fulfill the service, and a later settlement resulted in the full refund of RO 700 to the consumer.

Upon receiving the complaints, the CPA initiated legal procedures and engaged with the concerned parties, ultimately reaching amicable settlements that guaranteed the consumers’ rights.

The Authority emphasized the importance of suppliers adhering to contract terms and responding promptly to consumer complaints. It reaffirmed its commitment to monitoring such cases to safeguard consumer rights, strengthen confidence in the local market, and promote fairness in commercial dealings.

These efforts, the Authority noted, align with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040, which seeks to enhance governance, accountability, and transparency to ensure justice, protect rights, and improve institutional efficiency.
