MUSCAT: Salalah Airport reported a 13.2% increase in passenger traffic during the Khareef Dhofar Season 2025, with travellers drawn to the governorate’s cooler climate, cultural activities and leisure offerings. From the beginning of June to the end of August, the airport handled 562,561 passengers, compared with 496,936 in the same period of 2024.

Aircraft movements also rose by 10%, totalling 3,409 flights compared with 3,105 last year. The growth underscores Salalah Airport’s expanding role as the main gateway to Dhofar Governorate during the Khareef Dhofar Season.

For the first time, the airport introduced a drive-through check-in service (July 15 to September 15), enabling travellers to complete their travel procedures directly from their vehicles. In addition, Transom introduced its “Marahib” service, allowing passengers to complete check-in and baggage drop-off in advance, alongside a home check-in option. Self-service kiosks were also launched, providing faster and more flexible check-in.

Salalah Airport also welcomed new routes, including the launch of scheduled flights by Saudia, two charter flights from Basra by Fly Baghdad and two charter flights from Baghdad operated by Iraqi Airways.

Oman Airports, in coordination with the Civil Aviation Authority and partners in airlines, security and ground-handling, reported full operational readiness at Muscat International Airport and Salalah Airport to accommodate the seasonal rise in travellers.

The company noted that initiatives introduced during the season, such as new check-in services and additional routes, supported smoother passenger flows and expanded connectivity. The Khareef Dhofar Season 2025 further highlighted the growing role of Salalah Airport in supporting tourism activity and regional travel links.
