Muscat: The Royal Oman Police (ROP) cautioned the public against falling victim to fraudulent advertisements promoting fake farms and chalets on social media platforms.
In a statement by the ROP, authorities noted that scammers are increasingly circulating deceptive ads that falsely claim to offer bookings at well-known farms, chalets and tourist resorts across governorates.
These ads often feature counterfeit contact numbers and images to lure potential victims into transferring funds in advance for non-existent reservations.
According to the ROP, the perpetrators exploit social media to post convincing visuals and details, followed by requesting payments through bank transfers or mobile apps. Once the funds are transferred, the fraudsters disappear, leaving victims without any confirmation or booking.
The ROP urged citizens and residents to exercise caution and avoid transferring any amount before verifying the recipient’s identity and the authenticity of the establishment.
