The Municipal Council of Al Sharqiyah South held its eighth regular meeting of 2024 chaired byDr Yahya bin Badr al Maawali, Governor of Al Sharqiyah South Governorate and Chairman of the Council.

The meeting included discussions on several key topics aimed at strengthening the housing and municipal services sectors, exploring investment opportunities and assessing the role of these initiatives in developing the governorate economically and socially.

At the outset, the municipality presented the project named 'Addressing', introduced by Eng Dawood bin Suleiman al Wahaibi, Assistant Director-General Manager of the Municipality. He explained that the project serves as a foundational step towards enhancing municipal and housing services efficiency, highlighting that the addressing system helps organise urban spaces and create a distinct identity for different areas, making it easier for residents and visitors to reach their destinations quickly and effortlessly.

"The project aims to assign unique numbers and names to neighbourhoods, buildings and roads, enabling service institutions to deliver and develop their services faster and more efficiently. This project contributes to improving the quality of life in the governorate, offering convenience and flexibility to residents, and enabling seamless access to designated locations,” he said.

He pointed out that the project is part of national initiatives aimed at improving urban planning in the Sultanate of Oman. “We are committed to developing our services to align with the aspirations of the governorate’s residents and visitors, helping to strengthen infrastructure and facilitate business operations,” he said.

Tahani al Alawi from the Governorate Development and Enhancement Committee presented a draft investment attraction strategy for Al Sharqiyah South Governorate, explaining that the strategy focuses on integrating efforts among various stakeholders to attract investors and promote the tourism and cultural sectors in the governorate.

“We aspire for Al Sharqiyah South to become a distinguished investment and tourism destination by leveraging its unique natural, heritage and cultural resources to attract tourists and boost the local economy.” She emphasised that the strategy includes developing tourism and cultural events and organising festivals aimed at highlighting the governorate’s cultural identity and enhancing social and economic engagement.

The strategy also reviewed several future initiatives, including organising exhibitions and cultural activities and utilising historical sites to attract more visitors, which will contribute to improving services for visitors and strengthening the local economy. She underscored the importance of implementing investment projects that suit the unique character of the governorate and enhance its quality of life.

On the social side, the meeting discussed the minutes of the Social Committee’s meeting, which covered the study of negative social phenomena and presented suggestions for community development, focusing on enhancing the performance of Al Wafaa Centres for Rehabilitation and the charity teams.
