Salalah girls basketball team preps for Abu Dhabi Gulf Cup

Muscat: The Salalah girls basketball team is participating in the first edition of the Fatima Bint Mubarak Gulf Girls Basketball Cup, which is being held in Abu Dhabi from August 22 to 26. Four teams are competing in the tournament, including Salalah Club, along with the Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy teams, Al Qurain team from Kuwait and Al Gharafa Club from Qatar. The preliminary qualifiers will be held from August 22 to 24, followed by the matches to determine the first four places on August 25 and 26.


The Salalah Club team prepared for the tournament through a short internal camp in Muscat, under the leadership of the national team coach Wafaa al Zaghdoud, with the assistance of the national coach Nidal al Mughairi, with the attendance of all the players.


The camp, which was held from August 12 to 16, included intensive training in the morning and evening periods, in addition to holding two friendly matches to evaluate the team’s performance and enhance its strengths before participating in the tournament.


Wafaa al Samri heads the Salalah Club delegation, and the team’s management includes Umaima al Hajri. The training is led by Tunisian coach Wafaa al Zaghdoud, assisted by Nidal al Mughairi and Nada al Zadjali.


The team includes 12 players namely Abeer al Ismaili, Ghadir al Ismaili, Marwa al Ajmi, Fatima al Numani, Shams al Khanji, Rima al Mughairi, Buthaina al Maamari, Narin al Maamari, Ruba al Kalbani, Nour al Kharousi, Malak al Sulaimi, and Zeina al Battashi.
