Suhar: The University of Technology and Applied Sciences in Shinas hosted the fourth edition of Oman Challenge for IoT and AI, under the auspices of Omar bin Hamdan al Ismaili, CEO of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority.
The competition aims to foster knowledge of Internet of Things and Artificial Intelligence, empower youths to enhance technical skills and develop new applications for humanity's benefit.
The challenge provides a platform for aspiring entrepreneurs and tech enthusiasts to showcase their skills. Participants, comprising 52 student projects and 12 start-ups from 11 academic institutions across Oman, will gain technological resources and financial support to complete their smart projects.
The competition's scope covers various sectors, including healthcare, financial technology, education, transportation, smart cities and industrial revolution. By encouraging ideas and innovations in IoT and AI, the challenge is to drive advancements in critical areas, revolutionising how we approach healthcare, education, mobility and urban development.
Ameena al Jabri, head of IT department at Shinas UTAS, emphasised the importance of empowering the youth with technical skills and providing them with avenues to translate their ideas into clever solutions.
“Initiatives like the Oman Challenge for IoT and AI play a vital role in shaping Oman's digital landscape and fostering a culture of entrepreneurship and technological excellence,” she said.
The challenge witnessed a large turnout. Sohar University secured first place, followed by Al Buraimi University and Shinas University of Technology and Applied Sciences. In the start-up category, Majan College came first followed by Sultan Qaboos University and Modern College of Business and Science.
