Coinciding with the World Day for Occupational Safety and Health, the Ministry of Labour (MoL) organised a conference that enhances awareness methods and discusses climate impacts, legislation, risk management and the well-being of the work environment.


The conference, held under the auspices of Eng Yaqoub bin Khalfan al Busaidy, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources for Fisheries, aimed at educating workers and encourage best practices to reduce accidents, injuries and occupational diseases. It also highlighted the impact of climate.


Hussein bin Ali al Lawati, Director General of the General Directorate of Labour Welfare, delivered the ministry’s speech in which he highlighted the efforts implemented by the Ministry of Labour including a series of awareness programmes and campaigns, educational events and activities to ensure that establishments implement the requirements of occupational safety.


“The government’s interest in the health and safety of workers in private sector establishments is in line with the plans and objectives to protect people and society. We must always be fully prepared to face new and changing challenges and provide the necessary resources to achieve them, which contributes greatly to creating a positive and sustainable work environment," he said.


Dr Mohammed bin Hamad al Abri, Public Health Officer at the World Health Organisation office in the Sultanate of Oman, in the opening speech, stressed the need for good understanding and close cooperation between the authorities responsible for occupational health and safety and employees and employers so as to achieve good results.


The conference witnessed several dialogue sessions, focusing on the effects of climate change and the efforts required to reduce its effects, occupational safety and health in light of climate change, safety while working in unstable weather conditions, the impact of air pollution on, and developing the work environment through a successful experience in applying intelligence.


Also, it discussed the role of artificial intelligence in improving work safety and preventing accidents in establishments, occupational safety on roads and safe driving.
