HM Sultan Cup competitions continue in Barka

BARKA: ‘Latha’, ‘AL Fares’, 'Al Dhabi', ‘Huthor’ and ‘Al Naser’ claimed the second day cars, at the competitions of His Majesty the Sultan Camel Festival from March 4 to 7, at Royal Camel Corps Racing Track in Barka.


The final race of the season is supported by Royal Court Affairs represented by the Royal Camel Corps (RCC), and organised by Oman Camel Racing Association. The RCC will buy the best camel that records the best time.


The event includes 62 rounds in different categories to win valuable prizes including 27 cars and 18 icons including the cups.

The second day (March 5) will be for the ‘Lagaya’ category, three-year-old, for 5 km divided into 10 races in the morning with cash prize for the top 10. In addition, there will be competitions for human riders, three races for 2 km. The winner will receive a SUV car and cash prizes for the top 10. Six main races will start in the afternoon, six cars for the winners and cash prizes up to 10th place.


The afternoon competitions were very exciting between 240 of camel’s owners and trainer to win the five SUV cars, while ‘Latha’ owned by Mohammed bin Salem al Wahaibi, grabbed the first car. ‘AL Fares’ owned by Abdullah bin Bakhit al Owaisi, snatched the second car. ‘Al Dhabi’, owned by Yasser bin Al Saghir al Maliki, claimed the third car. ‘Huthor’ owned by Hamad bin Shatit al Wahaibi, finished first in the fourth round. ‘Al Naser’ was the champion to have the fifth car, owned by Hamad bin Shatit al Wahaibi.

In human rider rounds for 2 km, ‘Shawshara’ achieved first place and the car was owned by Ahmed bin Hamad al Omari. ‘Mishal’ owned by Nawaf bin Yaqoub al Jahwari was the champion in the second round. ‘Hurriya’ finished first in the third round, owned by Saeed bin Ali Al Hajri.


The third day (March 6) will be for the ‘Yathaa’ category, 4-year-old, for a 7-km race, three of them with car prizes and the other four winners will get cash prizes. On the same day, there will be two races for the ‘Thanaya’ category, 5-year-old, for a distance of 8 km. And three races are allocated for the ‘Al Hawl’ category, 6 years and above. Both categories will have cash prizes for the top 10.
