SINGAPORE: His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik on Thursday visited the National Orchid Garden in Singapore.

During the visit, His Majesty the Sultan witnessed a ceremony for allocating his name to one of the orchids. The gesture demonstrated the pride of the Singaporean government and people over His Majesty’s historic visit to the Republic.

His Majesty the Sultan expressed his deep appreciation for this kind gesture, which, he observed, reflects the strength of bilateral relations between the two friendly countries.

Naming orchids after monarchs, presidents, leaders of states and senior officials has been a tradition maintained in Singapore for more than 50 years. The National Orchid Garden, which falls within the purview of the Singapore’s Botanic Gardens, is considered a Unesco World Heritage Site. — ONA
