Nation gears up to face tropical condition Tej

MUSCAT: The National Emergency Management Centre (NEMC) held a meeting under the chairmanship of Maj Gen Abdullah bin Ali al Harthi, Assistant Inspector-General of Police and Customs for Operations and Vice-Chairman of NEMC, on Saturday.

The meeting reviewed the developments of the tropical condition Tej and its expected impact on the governorates of Dhofar and Al Wusta, the level of preparedness at the main sectors and the best mechanism for dealing with the tropical condition over the coming days.

The committee listened to a briefing from the National Multi Hazard Early Warning Centre at the Civil Aviation Authority on the developments of the tropical condition Tej and its expected effects.


Regarding the preparations at various sectors, the Relief and Sheltering Sector gave a brief presentation on the sector’s preparedness where 30 shelter centres have been set up in different wilayats of Dhofar Governorate all of which have been supplied with the necessary food items and other materials. Another three shelter centres have been prepared in the Wilayat of Al Jazir in Al Wusta Governorate.


The Basic Services Sector also provided various equipment, electric generators and fuel tanks to ensure the continuation of basic services related to water, power, communications, roads and waste management.


On Saturday morning, the Search and Rescue Sector sent teams, equipment and boats to handle water rescue cases. Besides, the medical response and public health sector in Dhofar Governorate has had its capacity boosted so that it can provide health services and ensure the sector’s ability to cope with the weather condition.


In addition, flights between Muscat and Salalah airports will be intensified over the next 24 hours to enhance travel to and from Dhofar Governorate. — ONA
