Sultan Qaboos University's engineering students are making waves on both the international and local stages, showcasing their dedication to excellence in technical education, research, and innovation. This commitment has been exemplified through the remarkable achievements of SQU's engineering students in various competitions and programmes in the current year.

Today's higher education institutions are evolving beyond the traditional model of imparting academic knowledge. They are now fostering environments that seamlessly integrate students into the realms of research and innovation, thereby contributing to the advancement of their respective fields.

The College of Engineering at Sultan Qaboos University is at the forefront of this transformation, channelling relentless efforts to fulfil its mission. The outcomes of these endeavours are vividly evident in its students' exceptional accomplishments in international and local competitions.

In a significant triumph, students from the Faculty of Engineering clinched the top spot in the 2023 ADIPEC competition, organised by the prestigious Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Conference (ADIPEC). This event serves as a gathering point for professionals and enthusiasts from the energy community worldwide.

The winning team comprised four outstanding petroleum and gas engineering students: Abdullah al Mayahi, Abdullaziz Almatroshi, Rawan Husain, and Sondos Ahmed. Their selection for this prestigious competition was based on stringent criteria set forth by ADIPEC.

The ADIPEC competition unfolded in two distinct phases. Initially, 27 universities hailing from various countries across the Middle East and North Africa contended fiercely to advance to the second stage. Out of these, only 12 teams were shortlisted for the final round.

In the culmination of the competition's second stage, the SQU team stood out as the clear winners. Their performance during the presentation of their final project earned them the first-place accolade, bestowed by industry experts and judges.

The journey to this victory was not without its share of trials and tribulations. The team encountered numerous challenges along the way, including the demanding task of balancing their academic commitments with the rigorous competition preparations. However, these very challenges ignited their determination and fostered their resilience to ultimately secure victory.

Moreover, this achievement served as a crucible that moulded the team into a tightly-knit group, fostering collaboration and sharpening their research, presentation, and communication skills.

Reflecting on this momentous accomplishment, Abdullaziz Almatroshi, a winning team member, expressed his profound satisfaction. He shared, "It is an exceptional experience to journey from the inception of the competition to witnessing our efforts culminate in victory. This triumph represents the culmination of countless hours of hard work, stress, and sleepless nights, and it's an indescribable feeling to emerge victorious in such a competitive arena."

The success of Sultan Qaboos University's engineering students in the 2023 ADIPEC competition underscores the institution's commitment to nurturing the next generation of innovators and problem-solvers, who are not only well-versed in academic knowledge but also possess the skills and resilience needed to excel in real-world challenges.
